What We Do · Staff Development
It is recommended that teachers and support staff who work closely with the students attending the visit are selected to accompany them. These staff may be a head of year, senior staff member, tutor or learning mentor. Visiting staff are key witnesses to the change in behaviour and positive achievements of their students, and are their champions on their return to school. It is important that staff continue to emphasise the progress that has been made so that students do not find themselves facing the same difficulties a few months later and we support staff in doing so by utilising our methods of group work and one-to-one contact back at school.
Adults who visit Jamie’s Farm are often astounded by the transformation the young people make in such a short period of time, adapting well to their surroundings and making links in their learning on the farm to their lives back home.
“You not only inspired the kids, but created some significant shifts in the adults’ understanding of themselves and the work they do.” Teacher
